The Issues

Daniel Webster's legislative record is a story of service – putting Florida and its people first.

He has worked to improve Floridians' lives and their opportunity for success by championing policies based on the following five principles: less government, lower taxes, personal responsibility, individual freedom, and empowering family.

Daniel Webster's record of true conservatism, principled leadership and common sense is exactly what Floridians need in Washington.  Daniel will bring these same principles to Washington to guide him as he serves Floridians with integrity, honesty, and respect.

Spending & Debt

  • Congress is $13 trillion in debt, and continuing to borrow $4 billion a day.  The combined economies of the world cannot sustain that level of borrowing and spending.  We need to turn off the faucet before the bathtub overflows.
  • The Obama FY2011 proposed budget doubles the national debt, increases spending to nearly $4 trillion, and imposes a deficit of $1.6 trillion this year alone.
  • Daniel Webster supports cutting spending, balancing the budget, and implementing a line item veto.
  • By rolling back the budget to 2007 levels, restricting government spending and making a few tough choices, we could balance the budget in three years, and cut the national debt in half by 2020.

Jobs & Economy

  • In order to get Floridians back to work and truly revitalize our economy for long-term sustainability, we must eliminate excessive burdens on Florida’s businesses and entrepreneurs.
  • As a local business owner and entrepreneur from Congressional District 8, Daniel Webster truly understands the importance of America’s strong free enterprise system and its effect on the economy.
  • Daniel Webster knows first-hand that Congress must get out of the way of Florida’s employers and let them do what they do best – create jobs, grow and further economic growth.
  • Congress should focus on limiting taxes, reducing debt and minimizing regulation to strengthen the economy and create jobs.

Taxes

  • As your Congressman, Daniel Webster would work to eliminate the death tax and repetitive taxes like the capital gains tax and dividends and interest taxes, further stimulating savings and investments.
  • During his service in the Florida Legislature, Daniel Webster helped to balance 28 consecutive budgets, and supports a balanced budget for US Congress, which would require them to operate the same way every American family must operate – in the black as opposed to being constantly in debt.
  • Economic challenges are not solved by increasing taxes on hard working Americans.  It is outrageous to raise taxes at a time when America’s working families are struggling to provide.  Daniel Webster opposes all new taxes and will work tirelessly to ensure that current taxes are reduced or eliminated.
  • As a state legislator Daniel Webster fought to cut taxes, sponsoring back to school tax-free shopping and supporting the intangible tax removal.

Health Care

  • Daniel Webster believes we need responsible health care reform that lowers costs and offers greater access to affordable health care.
  • Affordable and effective health care is a key component of a sustainable and high-wage workforce – without healthy employees and an improved quality of life overall economic strength is at risk.
  • President Obama’s health care program imposes unfunded mandates on individuals and businesses and significantly raises costs across the board. American employers and workers cannot afford to take on additional financial burdens at this critical point.
  • Daniel Webster would work to de-fund and repeal the Obama health care plan.

Sanctity of Life

  • As affirmed in the Declaration of Independence, the right to life is our first right.  Daniel Webster would support legislation that the Constitutional protections of life and liberty extend to the unborn.
  • Dan would oppose any use of public revenues to promote or perform abortions or to support organizations that promote or perform abortions.

Immigration

  • The greatness of America is based on the American dream– liberty and opportunity, a dream that is made possible by the laws of the land.  Condoning illegal immigration through amnesty or allowing it through passive enforcement destroys the very values that attract immigrants to our nation.
  • Fixing illegal immigration starts by securing our borders and strengthening existing penalties for people entering the country illegally.  The federal government must remove incentives for illegal immigrants and strengthen penalties for employers who hire them.
  • While immigration is a best treated as a federal issue, Daniel Webster supports the right of states like Arizona to enact such laws as necessary to protect their state.

Second Amendment

  • Endorsed by the NRA with a lifetime A+ rating.
  • Daniel Webster believes in the individual, Constitutional right to keep and bear arms and will strongly oppose any attempt to curtail, tax, or impede the free and robust exercise of that right.

Education

  • Strong education is the key to a vibrant economy, equipping students to become successful employers and employees, fueling technological innovation and wealth creation.
  • Florida’s future economic prosperity depends on its ability to train a high-wage high-tech workforce that can compete nationally as well as globally.
  • We must commit to building an education system that not only works for today’s problems but focuses on Florida’s long term competitiveness.
  • Due to his strong support of education in the Florida Legislature, Daniel Webster was appointed as a member of the UCF Board of Trustees in 2008 and continues to support education as a means of economic development.
